I have gone through the instructions again and again. It appears that program 1 is set up correctly but I cannot get it to run. It was running ok, but not on Sunday. When I added Sunday, it stopped working. Are there Updated instructions?!

I would make sure that program 1 for on and off are set correctly. For each program there is a separate on and off program. For instance p1 on and p1 off. I you require a instruction sheet there is a link to download one on the product page and that will have the most up to date one available.

I see this being plugged into a regular transformer in the video - does this fit inside of (and work with) a slimline transformer?
This timer is not compatible with Slim Line transformers.

You state that 'Fits directly into VOLT's® Multi-Tap and Clamp-Connect Transformers'. I have a slim line 150 watt transformer, but does this have to sit outside the transformer in line with the plug exposed to the elements?
In my experience it fits completely inside the transformer box.

Why does my battery backup not work? My power has shut off twice due to storms and each time, I have to go and manually do all the programming again.
Maybe it is a bad battery. I wasn’t able to program mine so I left it unplugged for a couple months and it finally died. The instructions are weak at best, so mine is not being used and will end up in the trash. Sorry I didn’t have a real answer for you.

I want a timer to go on every day at Astronomical Dusk for my region (zone), and go off at a set time (midnight). Does this timer allow for that program?
Yes. That’s exactly what this lets you do and the way I use it. It’s also nice with the built-in battery backup so if the power goes out, it doesn’t need to be reprogrammed again.

With the timer's battery fully charged but the power to it off, how long will the timer's programming keep?
The timer would keep all programming intact the entire time if it were to completely loose charge you would just have to rest the clock after charging.

A great replacement for a mechanical timer…
The G3 Astronomic Digital Timer has been operating correctly for a few weeks now. The initial quality of the device appears to be good. The only negative so far is that it was difficult to interpret the setting instructions. After several tries, it’s now correctly programmed to turn on at dusk and off at dawn in my geographic region. In my landscape lighting application, however, I should never have to set it again.

Great product and Easy Programming
Very easy to program. They have been working perfectly. I purchased 4 of them to replace bad timers in the 4 transformers. I programed them in my workshop and tested them in the evening and they were not turning ON. I called Volt the next morning and talked to super nice guy who reviewed my programming and then said I should let them go thru a full cycle to work correctly. Which I did and then they came on and off correctly and have been working great. The people at Volt have always been very friendly and can answer any questions or concerns.

Bad instructions
The two tricks with these are DST does lot need to be on. It is the default. And that when programming, you have to go to the second setting (p2 if you programmed p1) and hit auto to save. A save bottom would be too easy……. I’m hoping it works this time around. And I did hit random also.

The one you are looking for
This is the only astronomical timer with the plug in prongs at the top. This was critical for the transformer I was installing it in. Astro-timers adjust the on/off times to match the sunset/sunrise times in your region. This means it is alway right. (This one, like most also allows a sunset on with a timed off) while programming can be difficult for some, you do get to do so without it plugged in. Just plug it into any outlet when you get it to charge the internal battery.

Versatile features EXCEPT for backup battery
For the features and programming versatility, there is no comparison and it is 5 stars. HOWEVER, I give it 4 stars because the internal backup battery is not user replaceable and every 2-3 years it loses its ability to maintain a charge, which you don't realize until there is a power interuption and the programming is lost after the power is restored.
If Volt could convince Intermatic to make a version of this Astronomic Digital Timer with a user replaceable backup battery, that would be a tremendous plus for this timer and I wouldn't need to replace the entire timer when the internal battery fails. My other option would be to select another astronomic timer from another manufacturer and forgo the programming versatility that this timer provides for the convenience of having a user replaceable backup battery, which is cheaper than replacing the entire timer.

Don't buy this timer ..... it is difficult to program and doesn't work automatically.
Be prepared to manually turn the lights on each night. Customer service reps agreed it was hard for them to program and didn't work well. Supposedly there is a newer version out?

Really nice timer, don't hesitate
This timer works as described and is very simple to program. I have one of these timers on my Volt transformer I purchased about a year ago and it still works like a charm. The new G3 I just bought was to replace a Intermatic timer that failed in just over one year. The astronomical feature of this timer is a very nice option.
Just one programming note; the astronomical timer does not have a specific feature to allow you to add, for example, 10, 20, 30 minutes to the G3 (to delay "on time") so your lights do not come on when it's still light outside, even though astronomically the sun has set, as some timers do. The work around for this is the G3 has the ability to alter (add or subtract) the time one way or the other to the actual astronomical time itself. Pretty simple once you find it in the programming.
Highly recommend this timer for now, we'll just have to see how long they last.

Disappointing
Very disappointed this timer does not daily adjust for dusk and dawn times. This could easily have been programmed into this device. It works, but all's it is is a glorified digital timer.

Great timer!
This timer works great. It is relatively easy to program if you read the directions and follow them. The Astro feature means you don’t ever have to reset the time or the timer intervals. I had to retire a similar timer after 8 years of use and I never had to reset or reprogram it during that time. Highly recommend this timer.

Set it and leave it.
An amazing timer that changes with DST and the length of days. However, the programming of it can be frustrating at best. The features involved in numerous programs are only needed for 1% of the users. Programing it with gloves on is a bit much. Once it's set it's great. Getting there is the hard part.

Happy Customer
The Volt Astronomic Digital Timer replaced my older manual timer. Configuring it was easy and straight forward. No longer need to replace sensors or reset the timer as the day light hours change. The only negative was the incredibly small type font in the instruction booklet - tough to read.

Great timer
Works great so far after a month. I have it set to come on at sunset and off at sunrise. I wish it had an offset. In other words, sunset plus 30 minutes etc. It might, but I didn’t figure it out in the 2 minutes I was willing to give to it.

Nice not to manually turn on the transformer. The old timer stopped turning on, the off function was working fine. The new timer was easier to set which was a surprise. Nice to have.
